    About 90% of service failures are caused by fatigue that leads to a fracture, and sometimes the
    failure locations predicted from the static or dynamic analysis are different from the test and field
    observations . One of the reasons for this is that the failure is caused by fatigue damage.

It is possible to take advantage of this in FEA, and model just one portion of the structure. Through various devices it is possible to analyze structures with a plane of symmetry but subject to non-symmetric loads. Such approaches are used to reduce modelling and computational effort.
